Getting to Germany

Visa

In order to travel to Germany you need a visa if you come from a country outside of the EU. To get a student visa you need the following documents:

  1. A valid passport
  2. The confirmation of application from the university
  3. Health insurance
  4. Proof of funds for living

The last point “Proof of funds for living” includes such possibilities as:

  • Proof that you have a security amount of money on a blocked account. You need to show that you have 659 Euros per month, which means 7908 Euros for one year if you need to open your visa for this long period of time.
  • Proof that you were granted a scholarship.
  • Proof that someone whose place of residence is in Germany commits to assume the costs for you. This person should prove that he or she has a German place of residence and a stable income so that he or she can also finance you with own earnings. For this the person should provide three last salary statements. This person signs a paper in the public authority responsible for foreigners about the obligation that he or she covers your costs of living. You don’t need to prove that he or she exactly transfers money on your account. The signed and submitted in the aliens department paper is enough.

After your study is finished you may get visa for 1,5 years for job seeking purpose. You should also prove your financial status and insurance situation for it. Please find more detailed information about visa application requirements upon this link:

Contacting Indians in Germany

There are more Indians in Germany than you think! You can find connection to your land natives if you search on Internet for local-get-togethers (Stammtisch). As part of our initiative within the DAAD IndiAlumni society we encourage local-get-togethers in various cities in Germany. Find information about it on Facebook under DAAD IndiAlumni. Within these get-together-meetings Indians and Germans, who have connection to India meet approximately once a month in a restaurant, or at somebody’ s placeand chat, exchange their ideas, cook or organise some trips. This is a perfect opportunity to connect to locals, not only to Indians but Germans as well and thus gain friends for life, get better understanding of local culture and way of living.
