DAAD explained

The DAAD– Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) is one of the largest organizations promoting the international exchange of academics. Each year, more than 100,000 students and researchers from Germany and around the world receive scholarships to go abroad for a semester or to pursue internships, guest lectures, doctoral studies and research stays. Visit www.daad.de to find out more!

Before coming to Germany

In general, one should apply for admission and visa as soon as possible and well ahead of the planned arrival as the process is often lengthy. On their website, the DAAD provides a database of study courses in Germany as well as information on scholarship programs. Furthermore, steps to take before coming to Germany such as applying for a visa, finding accommodation, admission requirements and learning German are described. Visit www.daad.de/deutschland/nach-deutschland/en to find out more! There are many opportunities to ask questions and obtain answers about your stay, what to expect and how to prepare for it. Questions can be directed to your German university’s International Office, your study coordinator and the DAAD. Furthermore, there are many formal and informal groups of Indians in Germany on social media who will be happy to help you out (Google will help you find them). Of course, as a network of Germans that have been to India we – the DAAD IndiAlumni Netzwerk e.V.– can be contacted as well.

When in Germany

The DAAD website provides detailed information on the most important steps to take when reaching Germany including how to obtain a residence permit, where to find student jobs, how to adapt to the German university system and whom to contact. Visit www.daad.de/deutschland/in-deutschland/en for more information.

Who are we?

The DAAD IndiAlumni Netzwerk e.V. is a network of former exchange students and interns from various disciplines that have been to India on DAAD scholarships. We promote the academic, economic, social and cultural exchange between India and Germany. As a relatively young association (we became a registered society in 2014) we are constantly increasing our network and expanding our projects. For example, we have regular gatherings in several university cities. Contact us via our website (www.indialumni.de) or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/indialumni).
